How it works

Each bill goes to the last paycheck that arrives before it's due. Add up each check's bills, and what's left is its room for groceries, gas and everything else. When the problem is timing rather than the total, this shows the gap before it happens.

Questions

How do I decide which paycheck pays which bill?

Give each bill to the last paycheck that arrives before it's due, then add up each check's bills. What's left is that check's room for everything else. The tool above does this for your next two paychecks. The method, with a worked example.

What if one paycheck always comes up short?

It's common when one check carries the rent. Set aside part of the other check for it, ask a company to move a due date past the next payday, or pay a bill early from a check with room.

What if a bill is due the same day I'm paid?

The tool counts it on that paycheck. Pay it after the money arrives: some banks post pay a day late.

I'm paid every two weeks. What about the months with three paychecks?

Two months a year have a third payday. They're a good time to get ahead: put the extra check toward something past due, savings or a debt.

Is my information saved or sent anywhere?
